Presentation
The objective of this project is to establish a network of NGOs working on issues relating to animal welfare, such as farming/ fishing, laboratory experimentation, fashion, and entertainment (e.g., bullfights, TV shows) which will help scientists to develop international research on animal welfare. Often, researchers working on animal welfare tend to have to narrow their studies to specific national context as they lack the knowledge and expertise of the situation in other countries. Hence, through this network, we can facilitate the development of multi-country analyses by identifying partner NGOs that could be contacted for their invaluable local expertise for the need of specific research projects.
The participation of NGOs would be instrumental in collaborating on specific research projects, allowing researchers to expand their understanding of the legal, cultural, and practical aspects of animal welfare across different regions. We do not ask for money or any commitment from the NGOs, but rather, we seek the NGOs’ local expertise through surveys from time to time when an international research question on animal welfare surfaces.
Collaborations between researchers and NGOs have been proven successful and have given rise to useful resources such as the Animal Protection Index. Hence, we hope that the creation of this network will help scale up research on animal welfare by providing international data and will thus contribute to the improvement of animal welfare around the world. Participation in this network will be free for both NGOs and researchers.
